Africa's Last Eden

Gabon, a small country on the west coast of Africa, lies hidden on the equator with the Congo having its arms almost around it. There is only one word for it – WOW!

For the past fifty years Gabon had been under a dictatorship which was finally lifted in September 2023. The new government is making a huge effort to develop tourism, the first time in 50 years.

Most of the country is covered in almost untouched tropical rain forest, massive rivers, misty waterfalls and incredibly beautiful landscapes. Large numbers of its animals and organisms are classified as of the most rare in the world.

There are chimps, gorillas, mandrill baboons (Mandrillus sphinx), black panther, four kinds of crocodile (including the dwarf crocodile Osteolaemus tetraspis), manatees, a number of species of pangolin, bongo (Tragelaphus eurycerus), the tiny royal antelope (Neotragus pygmaeus) and many more.

And yes, believe it or not, some of our guides are pygmies!

The extremely rare Forest Elephant (Loxodontis africana cyclotis) with its pink teeth and brown eyes are present in good numbers while hippo and buffalo surfing the waves along the beaches are regular sightings!
